HEAT AND DUST tells the story of Anne (Julie Christie) in 1982 as she studies the life of her aunt Olivia (Gretta Scacchi) in the 1920s. Anne travels to India and re-evaluates her own life as she continues to learn more about Olivia. Olivia, the wife of a British administrator in India, fell in love with an Indian nawab (Shashi Kapoor) against all conventions of colonial India. Sajid plays the role of the Dacoit Chief, who liaises with the nawab at the palace in Khatm.
